Exodus 14 closes with the words: "And when the Israelites saw the great power the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant." Chapter 15 then opens with: "Then Moses and the Israelites sang . . . " Having witnessed God's powerful deliverance, the Israelites were transformed from terror and rage to awe and gratitude. Their response was to sing praises to God. In essence, they praised God's greatness and expressed confidence in his unfailing love.
